Raiders scummy team, Niners classier!

Why do people all of a sudden love the Oakland Raiders? Aren't they a scummy team who has a lot of trashy players, half of whom were close to the other side of the law.
Ever since Al Davis passed away, there's been this little love affair with the Raiders.

Exactly how many playoff games have they won in the last 15-20 years?
2000: 1
2001: 1
2002: 2
Total: 4

They're living off of the past. Yes one can say the same thing about the San Francisco 49ers, except that they're classier and have 5 rings and DeBartolo never threatened to move the team to Los Angeles.

Fox Sports Pathetic, Fox News Great

For as much as I like Fox News for news and political coverage, I can't stand Fox Sports, particularly Joe Buck, the Fox NFL Sunday crew, and Tony Siragusa. I feel like my brain lost some cells after watching a NFL game on Fox, especially with that silly robot of theirs.

NBC Sports is actually pretty good, with nice NHL Coverage with Emrick and Olczyk and decent NFL Coverage. Now that Keith Olbermann (or as Mark Levin calls him, Keith Overbite) isn't there, I like it. Don't like seeing Rodney Harrison as an analyst, because he's a Patriot or Cheatriot, but that's small potatoes.

Sports thoughts week of October 7-10

After finishing up with the Holiday of Yom Kippur, and the conclusion of the first round of the baseball playoffs, here are my thoughts.

1) Philadelphia choked, or was over-hyped and Charlie Manuel was out-managed by Tony LaRussa. How a team with four really good starting pitchers lost to the Cardinals is beyond me.

2) Jose Valverde is someone who reminds me of Jose Mesa, Mitch Williams and other good regular season closers, who is bound to blow a big save in the playoffs.

3) Stanford is really good, LSU and Alabama are good. The BCS Title game will be LSU and Oklahoma. Stanford will play Wisconsin or Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

4) Thom Brenneman is better than Joe Buck for football, IMHO. Fox Sports is quite annoying, and after watching the Seahawks beat the Giants, I felt like my IQ went down ten points.

5) Jim Nantz and Phil Simms are OVERRATED!! As a matter of fact, CBS Sports is a waste of time, too Northeast-centric for my taste.

Steve Jobs, RIP

I am a consumer of technology, so I don't know enough about the inner workings of the technology world. However, I saw a good comment about his passing from someone who commented on Pamela Geller's blog, Atlas Shrugged.

"Steve Jobs dropped out of college after six months, and went to work creating. Contrast what he did with the young people in lower Manhattan, many with college degrees, protesting Wall Street, and their failure to find employment."

All Seattle Sports Journalists unworthy of their job

It seems to me that all of the Seattle Sports Journalists, Local TV Anchors, KJR Hosts, KIRO Hosts and Team analysts are a bunch of house men or yes men (and women/tomboys) who should not be employed as sports experts because they're house men and cheerleaders.

For example, there were articles in the Seattle Times last week about the bumper crop of young players who are just ready to bloom like a rose, to use a phrase from Kellie Pickler. However, we have one of the higher ticket prices among the 30 MLB teams and to use that as a positive from another 90 loss season is silly.

Until further notice, I will not take the opinion of the Seattle Sports media seriously.

By the way, is there an unwritten rule here that only tomboys can work as sports reporters? Do we have any really attractive women here who know a thing about sports other than trying to snag a date with a jock?

New Leadership needed at Safeco

Jack Zduriencik is unworthy of being the Seattle Mariners because of how he has handled Chone Figgins and how the team has performed offensively the last three years. Chone Figgins is hitting under .200, yet still is on the team. Additionally, he showed up the manager last year, Don Wakamatsu, after being moved down in the lineup. He should have been released at the All Star Break.

Quite frankly, I am sick of the incompetence of these old white guys in Seattle, who have had their jobs forever, yet achieve very little. This doesn't attract me to follow your team or teams.

Sports thoughts

1) Maybe I miss the 90's and early 2000 brand of baseball. It seems like the hitters today are at a severe disadvantage. Teams have a much harder time scoring runs.

2) Why did the Marlins hire Jack McKeon? He's too old to be an effective major league manager at age 80. Give the job to someone younger, please. I don't want to see anyone over 65 manage if possible.

3) The Jack McKeon story, broken by the four letter word that controls sports today, is a good example of why I try to ignore them and their opinions. Some of their "experts" think that McKeon is good for the Marlins. I disagree. We need to get rid of these older east coast white sports analysts who miss the good old days of the 70's and 80's.

4) San Francisco is really good and they could repeat if they can add one or two bats in the next month. Their pitching is amazing. Boring to watch, but effective enough to win today.

Nucks another 94 Sonics

After watching the Canucks lose tonight against the Boston Bruins, I see Vancouver as the 1994 Seattle Sonics, a good regular season team who will lose in the playoffs. They have an ordinary coach and an ordinary goaltender in Roberto Luongo, whom the Canadians see as Patrick Roy rather than a decent goalie who can be beat. I would love to see the Blackhawks face them in the first round again and see Chicago beat Vancouver.

Northwest Teams just not elite

In my humble opinion, the two good basketball teams in the State of Washington, Washington and Gonzaga, are good not great and will never go to the Final Four as long as Lorenzo Romar and Mark Few are coaching. They don't seem to have the fire or spark necessary to win the big road game, that all good teams do, as part of being championship caliber teams. In a state like Washington, we need all of the advantages possible in order to win. I really think that Romar should have been criticized more intensely for losing last Saturday at Arizona. He should OWN the Pac-10 and his team has let the Wildcats pass them as the Best in the West.

Getting to Gonzaga, Sam Dower is a good player who deserves more playing time and should be ahead of Robert Sacre and Steven Gray, seniors who aren't as good as their predecessors. That's why St. Mary's may pass Gonzaga in the WCC.
