Why local TV stations are not worth one’s time

Occasionally I have reason to watch the local news. However I am very unimpressed with the quality of journalists as well as the stories that are aired on television. Why are these people considered to be serious journalists when their presentation and reporting and level of sophistication is anything but exceptional?

Weather can be found online on the app or some other platform or means. Why should one spend ten minutes watching the news for the weather ?

More religious at expense of well rounded

I see a lot of younger religious people who know a lot of rules and technical aspects of Jewish law but I think that they lack certain refinement or awareness of the outside world . To me it seems like they are like IT information technology people. They can tell you how to program your computer or fix certain things but they aren’t the type of people one would want to hang around for many hours on end. The reason is that they would bore one to tears … too one dimensional.

Happy birthday America

I’m a little late for this but a happy 250th anniversary to the United States πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ of America. Despite the issue and people tying to remake it it’s still a wonderful country for Americans and Jews.

My wife and I saw Hamilton recently as well as saw one of the older ships called the pride of Baltimore. It was good to see and heartwarming that many people want to see American ships πŸ›³️.

Modern orthodox shuls emptier? Problem?

It seems to me that in the last few years since the shuls and other Jewish places of study or worship re opened after Covid restrictions that the Modern Orthodox shul or synagogue isn’t nearly as full as it used to be.

There are a variety of reasons for this phenomenon. One is that the older time members who were stalwarts or die hard or loyal members have gotten older moved away or passed on.

Another is that other members have moved to the “right “ and want to go to a bais medrash or yeshiva style davening with less singing and formality than the Modern orthodox shul has.

Maybe this is for the best but it is alarming to me at some level to see fewer of my types in the shul compared with five to ten years ago.

Male voters in New York and New Jersey wimps

The male voters in New York and New Jersey who voted for Kathy Hochul and Mikie Michelle Sherrill for governor of those states are quite feminine and weak. It is unbelievable that men would vote for these two candidates whose main qualification is their gender and ability to check boxes in the identity politics game.

Bold move needed

While the Seattle Mariners had a good season and playoff run they still fell short of the World Series.

Therefore a bold move is needed and I believe that the owner should fire President of Baseball Operations Jerry DiPoto. He has been here the longest and consequently in order to have up the team and realize that they are not a serious team until they make the World Series someone needs to pay the price.

It won’t happen because Seattle executives don’t think like this but that is why I would do.

Baseball labor war impending

Based on the fact that many teams owners are cheapskates and use a lot of younger players I believe that there will be a long strike after the season next year .

What the sport needs is a floor and ceiling for each team so that teams are forced to spend a certain amount of money otherwise you have have nots who have good players who then are biding time until they go to a rich team like the dodgers Yankees and Red Sox.

Old boys club, why hockey and baseball lag behind football

Having noticed who gets hired in the two sports of baseball and hockey I can conclude that baseball and hockey are quite backwards and guilty of the old boys network in terms of hiring practices.

You do not find many assistant coaches getting promoted to head coach or manager in baseball.

They tend to hire the tried and true candidates.

The New York Rangers fired Peter Laviolette recently after two years, one good regular season but ending short of the finals and missing the playoffs the next year. So who do they replace him with? Mike Sullivan of Pittsburgh who was fired recently as well. Yea Sullivan won two cups with Pittsburgh but that was close to a decade ago. But for the Rangers it will work.

It’s a major turnoff for me. Bring in new blood and fresh ideas.

Now you know why Bill Walsh is so revered in NFL circles. He was blocked from getting a job after Paul Brown passed on him to succeed him years ago. He hired minority assistants who would eventually become head coaches.

New era in America , is it reflected in local government and journalism

I am not sure if the people who work for the local television stations and state government are aware of this but in November we elected Donald Trump as president as well elected majorities in the US House and Senate. Yet the imbeciles at ABC, CBS etc skew their reporting in such a way as to think that Kamala won the presidency and I’ll of her people would be elected Secretary of State , Defense etc

We need balance in journalism and an acknowledgment of reality and the imbeciles locally are unaware of this as well as their executives who run the stations.

What should journalism be

Every so often I think about what should the purpose or point of journalism be?

It should be more than reporting what happened and hiring diversity hires to fill quotas and appease left wing activists . That is what most of your local news stations and papers do.

No wonder people tuned them out and went to Fox News πŸ—ž️ and Newsmax among other outlets.

They attempt real journalism. Even that new station News Nation that Bill O’Reilly and Chris Cuomo are on is a better source than the legacy media.

Women in sports not such a good thing

I don’t understand why we have to have women reporters coaches executives etc for men’s sports. Last night the Seattle kraken an nhl team made history when their assistant coach was the first prominent assistant coach for one of the four major sports.  It makes sports more sissified and just like another office space.

What the Seattle Mariners owe their fans after a disaster of a collapse conference

After this pathetic display of collapsing down August and September this is what should happen.

Tuesday afternoon or late Tuesday morning John Stanton and one or two other executives need to call a press conference and announce the firing of Jerry DiPoto and Justin Hollander as POBo and GM of the Seattle mariners and that a search  for a new POBO (president of baseball operations ) as well as General Manager will be begin immediately.

Why Tuesday and not Monday ? Because this Monday the Seattle Seahawks are playing the Detroit lions on Monday night football and as such the sporting press attention will be focused on the Seahawks as it should.

This press conference needs to be done when there is no distractions from the Seahawks game.

This failure is on DiPoto and the owners and NO ONE ELSE

Otherwise they are wasting the sporting fans time money and attention.

Difference between baseball and football halls of fame

The following people are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame: O.J. Simpson, Lawrence Taylor, Ray Lewis Brett Favre

The following people are not in the Baseball Hall of Fame: Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, George Steinbrenner, Curt Schilling, Rafael Palmeiro, manny Ramirez and Sammy Sosa.

Why? Baseball is snobby. They want all of their inductees to look and act like Cal Ripken Jr. clean cut and wholesome as apple pie.

Are progressives silly or myopic or narrow minded

For as much as the average progressive in your local news outlet or national outlet claims to be smarter than us conservative and intellectually independent people it seems that in reality they are quite limited in terms of their worldview and making intelligent arguments. They have never heard of the conservative giants like William Buckley, Russell Kirk, Milton Friedman and Rush Limbaugh. I feel like I’m living in a different world than many of these people. This objectively is not healthy for our society.

Even if only 30-40% of the people are conservative or independent from thinking that Biden, Obama and the Democrats should have a blank check on running your life, that’s about 90-125 million Americans.

It would seem to me to be foolish to dismiss those concerns.

DIE in journalism unhealthy for society

Diversity Inclusion and Equity is a fad that unfortunately has gained strength the last five to ten years . Basically it means that we need to include and listen more to the underrepresented groups of Americans who are largely either female , non European based people and ESPECIALLY the LGBTQ+ community.

However when they report news they do so from a very narrow angle and perspective. I wouldn’t to listen to their views on the military and foreign policy. I also don’t want them running inner cities as crime has gone up in most of these cities.

Therefore tv stations such as WCBS New York channel 2 who employ tons of these women who are more or less diversity hires to look good, have less credibility and seriousness than they did ten to fifteen years ago.

Kristine Johnson has no business being a top TV anchor given how shallow she is. Same with Ali Bauman  and Jessica Moore.

If I ran journalism school I would require reading of Bill Buckley and other conservative voices and thinkers. It would make for a more well rounded journalist and society.

First amendement and freedom of the press disappearing

Based on an interview that Tucker Carlson did with Dave Benner a libertarian from. Minnesota I am less optimistic about our direction than before. He says that freedom of the press is disappearing and uses some statistics to back it up. For example our freedom index score is 71, about that of Gambia and Tonga, Norway is number one with a 91score.

More to add to this.

In other words Fox News is not worth our time anymore.

One party state or monolithic views bad for organizations and Society

In my humble view a one party state or city government with no dissenting views is bad for society as it doesn’t allow for criticism or improvement of processes. This is probably the biggest problem with contemporary America as well as many other Western countries like Canada United Kingdom πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Australia and France. How can people take their state and federal governments seriously when they suppress all dissenting points of view?

Some big ideas for 2024

There’s a blog that I read called The American Thinker. They have some interesting writers and points of view. I saw a post the other day called Tem big ideas to help Republicans win in 2024.

A couple of these ideas are very worthwhile. One is Mandate growth requiring that as a matter of law GDP should be hitting a minimum of 4 percent. This is an easy way to measure how well the economy and president and federal government are doing.

Another one is energy independence. To rely on the Arab nations and Venezuela πŸ‡»πŸ‡ͺ for oil when we have oil wells and fracking available is crazy and one of the reason that prices or inflation is so HIGH.

Sunseting commissions that serve no purpose is another favorite of mine.

Let me thank Michael W Burns for this article.

McCaskey -Halas family not fit to own a major sports team

After another disappointing Bears season in Chicago it’s time Chicago sports fans faced a very very uncomfortable truth.

The McCaskey-Halas family is not fit or equipped to own a major sports team today . If they do they will never win a championship because they are stuck in their old ways and won’t adapt to the new game and  the importance that the quarterback plays today .

Since Mike Ditka was fired after the 1992 season the Bears have won 10 games in a season six times , four by Lovie Smith. That’s pitiful.

America : glass half full or half empty

On the one hand we have had extreme authoritarian  leftists run our federal government and most of the

State government the last 15 years. The good news is that most of them are incompetent or corrupt.

However without a strong leader of the opposition (GOP and assorted independents or old fasho Ed peoples like me and my parents ) the leftists will remain in power . Let us hope that sanity and wisdom prevail .
