Random Thoughts

1) Saw a disturbing story today on the news with these Little League Parents getting into a fight after a game in Georgia. Very deplorable. Makes me feel weird and guilty that I want one or two of the Seattle Mariners to get into a fight or altercation with one of their rivals, particularly the Texas Rangers and Anaheim Angels. However, no one on the Mariners has the type of internal fire necessary to get riled up enough. Interesting that these parents of Little Leaguers go crazy and their kids don't get paid to play.

2) As much as I love Fox News, I detest Fox Sports. They're AWFUL!!! Buck, McCarver, Rose, Albert, Siragusa, Aikman, all of them are second class sports journalists. Anyone who is good works for ESPN, MLBNetwork or NBC. Other than one of my friends who works for Fox Sports Radio, I can't see supporting that network too much.

3) Looking forward to seeing the Nationals and maybe Orioles in the baseball playoffs this year.

Hockey season over- Real Work Begins

Thankfully, the Los Angeles Kings won Game 6 tonight to win their first ever Stanley Cup. Now the real work begins. It's about time that the Owners and Executives of the NHL stand up and throw out Gary Bettman as commissioner. He has done an awful job and put the sport so far under the radar screen it's amazing. Because he's an American, he doesn't understand the culture of hockey. If the NHL needs a Commissioner or President, it should be someone who understands both the Canadian and American viewpoints. Shouldn't the Canadian teams get together and try to throw him out? I don't know if the American teams are as interested in getting rid of Bettman, as they seem to do well financially under him.

Recall Elections: Useful exercises or Waste of Money?

Tomorrow in the State of Wisconsin, they are having a recall election: While everyone is focusing on the Governor's race, Scott Walker versus Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch is also being recalled. Hopefully Walker and Kleefisch will win.

In my opinion, should the Democrats and Big Union bosses lose tomorrow, there should be some sort of penalty given to them, beyond the shame of losing a recall election. I don't know the laws of Wisconsin well enough, but either a hefty fine or jail time might do the trick and make people think twice before recalling someone, just because you don't like them.

Raiders scummy team, Niners classier!

Why do people all of a sudden love the Oakland Raiders? Aren't they a scummy team who has a lot of trashy players, half of whom were close to the other side of the law.
Ever since Al Davis passed away, there's been this little love affair with the Raiders.

Exactly how many playoff games have they won in the last 15-20 years?
2000: 1
2001: 1
2002: 2
Total: 4

They're living off of the past. Yes one can say the same thing about the San Francisco 49ers, except that they're classier and have 5 rings and DeBartolo never threatened to move the team to Los Angeles.

Fox Sports Pathetic, Fox News Great

For as much as I like Fox News for news and political coverage, I can't stand Fox Sports, particularly Joe Buck, the Fox NFL Sunday crew, and Tony Siragusa. I feel like my brain lost some cells after watching a NFL game on Fox, especially with that silly robot of theirs.

NBC Sports is actually pretty good, with nice NHL Coverage with Emrick and Olczyk and decent NFL Coverage. Now that Keith Olbermann (or as Mark Levin calls him, Keith Overbite) isn't there, I like it. Don't like seeing Rodney Harrison as an analyst, because he's a Patriot or Cheatriot, but that's small potatoes.

Sports thoughts week of October 7-10

After finishing up with the Holiday of Yom Kippur, and the conclusion of the first round of the baseball playoffs, here are my thoughts.

1) Philadelphia choked, or was over-hyped and Charlie Manuel was out-managed by Tony LaRussa. How a team with four really good starting pitchers lost to the Cardinals is beyond me.

2) Jose Valverde is someone who reminds me of Jose Mesa, Mitch Williams and other good regular season closers, who is bound to blow a big save in the playoffs.

3) Stanford is really good, LSU and Alabama are good. The BCS Title game will be LSU and Oklahoma. Stanford will play Wisconsin or Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

4) Thom Brenneman is better than Joe Buck for football, IMHO. Fox Sports is quite annoying, and after watching the Seahawks beat the Giants, I felt like my IQ went down ten points.

5) Jim Nantz and Phil Simms are OVERRATED!! As a matter of fact, CBS Sports is a waste of time, too Northeast-centric for my taste.

Steve Jobs, RIP

I am a consumer of technology, so I don't know enough about the inner workings of the technology world. However, I saw a good comment about his passing from someone who commented on Pamela Geller's blog, Atlas Shrugged.

"Steve Jobs dropped out of college after six months, and went to work creating. Contrast what he did with the young people in lower Manhattan, many with college degrees, protesting Wall Street, and their failure to find employment."
